CITY FOCUSED !!!!!
March 03, 2010
Did you know that it is the heart of the Father that we share His hope and salvation with our community? Did you know that we have a responsibility as believers to minister not only to each other in our Oasis family, but with those that are less blessed than we in our cities? Jesus gives us an interesting and heartfelt picture in His Word found in Matthew 25:34 - 40 :( Amplified Bible)
34Then the King will say to those at His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father [you [a]favored of God and appointed to eternal salvation], inherit (receive as your own) the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you [b]brought Me together with yourselves and welcomed and entertained and [c]lodged Me,
36I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me [d]with help and ministering care, I was in prison and you came to see Me.(A)
37Then the just and upright will answer Him, Lord, when did we see You hungry and gave You food, or thirsty and gave You something to drink?
38And when did we see You a stranger and welcomed and entertained You, or naked and clothed You?
39And when did we see You sick or in prison and came to visit You?
40And the King will reply to them, Truly I tell you, in so far as you did it for one of the least [[e]in the estimation of men] of these My brethren, you did it for Me.(B)
For the past 6 months, Pastor Calvin and a few people have come together every Thursday night to make 40 + lunches to pass out to those in need Friday at noon and on some Friday evenings at local areas here in Renton. Often, due to the shortage of help and donations of lunch items, they shoulder the burden of the expense of this ministry as well.
There are three areas of the outreach ministry that you can fulfill this law of Christ:
- Donate lunch items in the form of loaves of bread, peanut butter, jelly/jams, lunch meats/cold cut, individual packets of mayo and mustard, fruit, fruit snacks, individually packaged chips, cookies or sweets, and plastic sandwich bags. The non-perishable items can be placed in the box located in the foyer. The items that must be refrigerated can be placed upstairs in the OZone Kid's class room refrigerator. You can also ask any usher or greeter at the door for help. We are also asking for new socks in all sizes/gender as this is the item most frequently requested at the give sites.*
- Meet with the crew at 7:30PM to make the lunches
- Meet with the outreach crew to pass out lunches and any other ministry-type items
Prayerfully consider the best way to answer this calling, and how God would lead you to serve. This outreach is more than just sharing food; it is allowing God to use you to take care of HIs people. You are the hands and feet of the Gospel--the light on a hill for the world to see that Jesus is Lord! Together we will see the destiny and the promises of God manifest not only in our church, but in our community as we continue to build the Kingdom together.
